Youth Fitness Program

Runnin’ for Rhett is a non-profit foundation focused on our vision to give every child the chance to live a healthy life. Our mission is to inspire and enable our youth to Move into Life through our after school running program where we train with and educate students on the value, benefits and fun associated with adopting a healthy lifestyle. It migrates to their parents as well, many whom participate in both the training as well as run in our culminating Run Because You Can 5K race.

Each year our R4R Youth Fitness Program impacts over 4,000 youth across nearly 80 Sacramento area schools. We provide a grant to each participating school that funds a 5 week, twice-a-week after school training program, a coach, representative from R4R (“Rhett Rep”), a baby blue R4R cotton t-shirt and an entry into a designated race in April and December. Upon completion of their race, the students are also awarded a special race medal. Along the way our coaches and Rhett Rep volunteers expose and educate the youth in the value, benefits and fun associated with living a healthy lifestyle. The hope is this becomes habit, news spreads to their colleagues and family members and the impact is a first step towards addressing the obesity epidemic in our society, especially with youth.
